The Superintendent's School of the Week is Victor Ornelas Elementary School. Check out what students and staff are up to at the school:

Victor Ornelas Elementary School is this week's Superintendent's School of the Week. Here are some things to know about Principal Tracy Leiker and TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment at Victor Ornelas and Florence Wilson Elementary Schools) Kelly Gerber:
How long have you been the principal at your current school?
Mrs. Leiker: This is my 9th year at Victor Ornelas.
Mrs. Gerber: This is my first year as TOSA.
What led you to teaching and what prompted your decision to become a principal?
Mrs. L: I had a 4th grade teacher that was amazing. She made every lesson fun each day. I enjoyed the impact I had on students in the classroom and felt I could impact more students daily. I love seeing students succeed.
Mrs. G: I knew I wanted to teach from a young age. Everyone in my immediate family works in the education field in some capacity, so I’ve been surrounded by it my whole life. I have worked with some truly amazing principals and their encouragement and guidance helped in my decision to pursue my admin degree. You get to connect with kids and support staff; it’s a win-win.
What accomplishments fill you with pride so far this year?
Mrs. L: I am so proud of the growth all my students have shown all year. We are working hard and its paying off.
Mrs. G: I have learned SO much this year, I look at where I started and feel pride in my new-found knowledge about school leadership.
Where did you work in the summers/during college?
Mrs. L: I would work as a lifeguard during the summer months.
Mrs. G: I decorated Dairy Queen cakes and worked for Emporia State University.
