USD 457 Transportation Mechanic, Ed Lomelin, retired today after his many years of dedicated service in helping students get transported safely to and from school.
GCHS iPad checkout will take place next week beginning Tuesday, August 6. Any returning students 10th-12th grade will be able to pick up their iPad. 9th grade and new students will receive theirs the first week of school. https://www.gckschools.com/article/1692525

Families around the community are picking up backpacks filled with schools supplies at Garfield Early Childhood Center today. Many USD 457 staff and other volunteers are busy helping students get the items they need to start the school year. The GCHS JROTC will conduct a team training camp July 29th – August 10th for the upcoming season. The camp will focus on physical conditioning and event training. If students are interested in the camp, contact 1st Sergeant Stephen Peterson at speterson@gckschools.com.

City crews are painting the crosswalks around the community to get ready for the start of the school year.
The first day of the 2024-25 school year is Wednesday, August 14. All elementary (Kindergarten-5th), 7th, 9th, and 10th grade students, as well as any student new to the district will begin with a half-day. The first full day of school for Garden City Public Schools is Thursday, August 15, 2024, when all classes will be in session for the start of the 2024-25 school year.

The Kansas Highway Patrol inspected USD 457 school buses Tuesday morning. Every school bus must pass inspection before the district can use them to transport students. This is the third year in a row that the district received a 100% inspection.www.gckschools.com/article/1683868

Garden City High School is conducting a band camp this week preparing students for the upcoming marching season. The camp is focused on marching and musicianship and will help the students learn the music and drills for the coming school year.
