Garden City High School hosted three judges from the Kansas Court of Appeals. They spoke to students on how court decisions are made, what it takes to become a judge, and real behind-the-scenes cases. Judge Lesley Ann Isherwood, Judge Rachel Pickering, and District Judge Andrew Stein visited with and answered students' questions.
The three judges are in the community where they will hear oral arguments in two cases on Tuesday, in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building, KCB Bank Auditorium at Garden City Community College.
The 14-member Kansas Court of Appeals is our state's intermediate appellate court. The court's jurisdiction, which is established by statute, includes criminal, civil, and administrative cases. The Court of Appeals normally sits in three-judge panels and travels to locations throughout the state.
Judge Rachel Pickering will serve as the presiding judge for the docket at Garden City Community College. She will be joined by Judge Lesley Ann Isherwood and District Judge Andrew Stein, 16th Judicial District, which is composed of Clark, Comanche, Ford, Gray, Kiowa, and Meade counties. Stein joins the panel through a special appointment.

Jan Kennedy, Victor Ornelas Elementary School music teacher, has made it to the semi-finals of America's Favorite Teacher contest.
