School nurses play a critical role in supporting the health, wellness, and academic success of students nationwide. School nurses positively impact students, families, and schools by providing direct care, managing chronic conditions, promoting mental health and school attendance, connecting families to community resources, and coordinating care to break down barriers to healthcare access. With over 40% of school-aged children affected by chronic or mental health conditions, school nurses play a vital role in improving attendance, reducing health disparities, and supporting student success. Celebrate and advocate for a Nurse in every school.

Garden City Public Schools will be running mud routes tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6, 2026. This is due to the predicted weather tonight and tomorrow.

Garden City Public Schools has a Wicked theme this year for Teacher Appreciation Week. The Wizard, Josh Guymon, Superintendent, along with his apprentice, Dr. Virginia Duncan, Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, were recognizing teachers today around the district.

USD 457 Parents As Teachers Tammy Espinoza, Madison Thompson, and Sonia Terrazas with Governor Kelly's Proclamation honoring National Home Visiting Week.

This year, Parents As Teachers was awarded the Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting Grant by DCCCA, in partnership with Russel Child Development Center.

Parents As Teachers is honored to take on this special grant opportunity to better meet the needs of our high-risk population.

Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center hosted a First Responders Breakfast on Thursday. Student Council students provided water, a special gift, and donuts to those who attended the event.

Alta Brown Elementary School had representatives from Security State Bank stop by to read to the first grade class. They talked about saving and handed out piggy banks.

Jennie Wilson Elementary School hosted a Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday. The event provided an opportunity for the first responders to visit with the school’s students before the start of school.

On Saturday, April 25, 21 GCHS orchestra students participated in State Solo & Ensemble competition at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka.
Students participated in 15 separate events - 13 solos and 2 ensembles.

The Garden City High School National Honor Society will hold a fundraiser at Dirty Dough from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thank you for your support.

The GCHS Lady Buffs Swim Team will hold a fundraiser in partnership with Freddy's tonight, April 27th. Fifteen percent of all sales from 5:00-9:00 p.m. will go back to the team. Thank you for your support!

Today was the GCHS Annual JROTC Organizational Day. The group started with the physical training test at the GCHS track. Then they competed in assigned groups through the Raider Course at the high school for team building.
