There will be no school on Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10 for Spring Vacation. District offices will be open with regular business hours. Classes will be back in session on Tuesday, April 11.
GCHS sports scheduled for April 4 have been postponed.
GCHS senior, Sydni Ruiz-Hernandez, recently received word that she has been awarded the Hagan Scholarship. The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship designed to help students graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. She will be attending Kansas State University next year and majoring in Biology/Pre-Medicine.
Lisa Juel, Special Education/Mental Health Liaison at GC Achieve, and Alice Hilt, drama/theatre teacher at GCHS were recognized on Saturday at the Region 1 Kansas Teacher of the Year award ceremony in Salina. Alta Brown Elementary School is holding a fundraiser in partnership with Freddy's tonight, April 3. Fifteen percent of all sales 5:00-9:00 p.m. will go back to the school. Thank you for your support!

GCHS Junior Pierre Madlangbayan took 1st place at The English-Speaking Union Kansas City Branch Shakespeare Competition last month. She receives an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to compete in the ESU National Competition on April 24.

Plymell Elementary School is this week's Superintendent's School of the Week. Here are some things to know about Principal Suzette Goldsby-Lewis:
What led you to teaching and what prompted your decision to become a principal?
“I had an amazing 4th grade teacher, Mrs. McGlohon, who inspired me to become a teacher. She was very stern and I cried when I found out she was going to be my teacher because I wanted the other teacher who was "fun". One of the best "disappointments" in my life. What I perceived as stern was actually her having high expectations for all her students, both academically and behaviorally, but we also knew she deeply cared about each one of us in her class. There's not a single thing that prompted me to become a principal. My journey just kind of led me in that direction with the support of my principal and colleagues.”
What is one of your hidden talents?
“I like to do carpentry and build/repair things in my yard and house.”
What are your hobbies or how do you spend your days off?
“I like to read and exercise as well as work in my yard in the summer. My days off are spent with family and friends, but I spend the mornings drinking coffee and snuggling my dogs on the couch.”
What accomplishments fill you with pride so far this year?
“Plymell students have really taken on ownership of their learning and are focused on improving their individual skills. When I walk down the hall, I see younger students not only seeking out staff to read to but seeking out the older students as well. The older students have done some amazing and creative projects during their generous hour. They are learning about things that interest them and many projects are benefitting the school or the community.”
If you could have on song played every time you entered a room what would it be and why?
“Happy by Pharrell Williams. We choose our mood each day, so why not choose to be happy and positive.”
