Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street.
The Board conducted a hearing at 5:00 p.m. on the recommendation to adopt the budget for the 2026-2027 school year. The Board is looking at a proposed mill levy rate of 51.000 mills, which is down from last year’s mill levy rate of 51.418 mills.
The Board recognized Randy Ralston for his outstanding service as the president of the board for the 2025-2026 school year. Mark Hinde is the president, and Nathan Haeck is the vice president for the 2026-2027 school year. The other Board of Education members include Robin Bergkamp, Katherine Cole, Jacob Jenkins, and Rebecca Swender.
The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the August 10, 2026, Regular Board of Education Meeting. Accounts Payable, with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions.
They approved a bid for a generator replacement at Florence Wilson Elementary School from Cummins Sales and Services for $34,650.00. A quote to strip, seal, and re-coat two tennis courts at Garden City High School from Greenbush quote from Mammoth Sports Construction, for $49,750.00. The Audiology Services Agreement between the district and Common Spirit Siena Medical Audiology Clinic for the 2026-2027 school year.
They approved the following revised Board of Education policies: JBCB Foster Care Students; JBCB Foster Care Student Regulations; JGFGAA Stock Supply of Emergency Medication; and JBD Absences and Excuses.
Under unfinished business of the meeting, the board approved a Resolution to adopt the Local Option Budget Percentage for the 2026-27 school year. They also approved the 2026-2027 budget.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St., Garden City, Kansas.
