The Educational Support Center at Garden City Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, August 11th, for a staff in-service during the morning. The in-service is getting staff prepared for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
The Educational Support Center will be open with regular business hours on Tuesday afternoon. There will be a teacher in-service held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The first day of school for the 2026-27 school year will be Wednesday, August 12th, with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades, and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. Abe Hubert Elementary School, Jennie Barker Elementary School, and Plymell Elementary School are also encouraging sixth graders to attend school on August 12th. This will help the students at those schools get prepared for the start of the school year.
No breakfast or lunch will be served on Wednesday at the schools around the district because it is a half-day of school. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The schools across the district will release after the morning session on Wednesday. Horace Good Middle School and Kenneth Henderson Middle School at 10:50 a.m., Garden City High School at 11:00 a.m., Garden City Achieve at 11:20 a.m., Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center and Charles Stones Intermediate Center at 11:30 a.m., and the elementary schools at 11:50 a.m.
The first full day of school for Garden City Public Schools is Thursday, August 13, 2026. All classes will be in session for the start of the 2026-27 school year with normal starting and ending times.
Garfield Early Childhood Center will start school on Monday, August 17, 2026. The school will be holding screenings on Thursday, August 13th, and Friday, August 14, 2026. This is helping get the students ready for the start of school.
The district is asking parents to update their contact information with the schools. The district needs this contact information so buildings can contact families on any updates as we progress through the school year.
