Garden City Public Schools has scheduled open houses for the start of the school year. Open houses provide parents the opportunity to become familiar with the schools, teachers, and classrooms that their children will be attending.
Open houses on Monday, August 10th include:
Alta Brown Elementary School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Abe Hubert Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Buffalo Jones Elementary School, 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Florence Wilson Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Georgia Matthews Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Gertrude Walker Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Jennie Barker Elementary School, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Jennie Wilson Elementary School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Plymell Elementary School, Kindergarten students and parents will meet from 5:30-6:00 p.m., and then all students in kindergarten – 6th grade will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Victor Ornelas Elementary School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Horace Good Middle School, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Kenneth Henderson Middle School, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Garden City High School, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Garden City Achieve open house will be held on Wednesday, August 12th from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Garfield Early Childhood Center open house will be held on Thursday, August 13th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
The district is asking parents to update their contact information with the schools. The district needs this contact information so buildings can contact families on any updates as we progress through the school year.
The first day of school for the 2026-27 school year will be Wednesday, August 12th, with a half-day orientation for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth and tenth grades and all students new to Garden City Public Schools. Abe Hubert Elementary School, Jennie Barker Elementary School and Plymell Elementary School are also encouraging sixth graders to attend school on August 12th. This will help the students at those schools get prepared for the start of the school year.
The first full day of school for Garden City Public Schools is Thursday, August 13, 2026, for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
Garfield Early Childhood Center will start school on Monday, August 17, 2026. The school will be holding screenings on Thursday, August 13th, and Friday, August 14, 2026. The screenings are for the start of school for the building.
