The Garden City High School Drama Department received word that it was honored with nine Jester Award nominations for its production of “Chicago: Teen Edition”. They attended the Jester Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 3rd, at Century II Performing Arts Center’s Convention Hall in Wichita, Kansas.
They received a Jester Award during the ceremony for the Best Production Number. The number that they received the award for was “We Both Reached for the Gun”.
The Jester Awards are held annually and hosted by Music Theatre of Wichita. Schools from around the state submit productions for consideration. This year, Garden City High School submitted the fall production of “Chicago: Teen Edition”.
Jester Nominations include:
Outstanding Production: Garden City High School.
Leading Performer: Paige Sander (Roxie Heart), Sophomore.
Supporting Performer: Oliver Spenser (Billy Flynn), Senior.
Ensemble / Chorus: Garden City High School.
Production Number: “We Both Reached for the Gun”.
Vocal Music Direction: Abigail Martinez, GCHS Vocal Music Director.
Choreography/Staging IS: Tori Fultz, Ethan Duncan, Virginia Duncan, and Steps Dance School.
Sound Design: Bryce Myerhoff, Middle School Choir Director.
Program Design: Summer Miller, Jennifer Sanders, and Virginia Duncan.
The Jester Awards, presented by Music Theatre Wichita, have celebrated excellence in Kansas high school musical theatre for over two decades. Through a comprehensive judging process, the program honors the work of students and educators across all aspects of a production, from onstage performance to technical design, directing, and crew work behind the scenes.
During the ceremony, all nominees were announced, and several performed. Scholarship awards were also presented to students.
This program, honoring casts, crews, directors, and designers, is made possible by the legacy of Belden and Anna Mills, through the Lois K. Walls Jester Fund at MTWichita and the Naftzger Fund for Fine Arts.
