The Garden City High School music department participated in the State Large Group Contest held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The school had a large contingent of students compete in the contest that was held at Dodge City High School in Dodge City, Kansas. A panel made up of three judges rated each of the performances in their particular music group.
Three GCHS choirs participated in the state competition. Freshman Treble Choir received a “I” rating, Les Chantes received a “I” rating, and the GCHS Chorale received a “I” rating.
The GCHS orchestra had all four orchestras perform together in one ensemble, along with selected band members, to create a Full Symphony Orchestra experience. The 90-student ensemble met for eight evening rehearsals over the last two months. The ensemble received the top rating of a “I” rating (outstanding)
The GCHS Band had two groups compete at the state competition. The Symphonic Band earned a “II” rating, and the Wind Ensemble received a “I” rating.
