Health Awareness Week

Garden City Vice-Mayor, Deb Oyler, read a proclamation at Gertrude Walker Elementary School on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.  The proclamation declares the week of January 26 through January 29, 2026, as Health Awareness Week in Garden City, Kansas.  The proclamation will urge all residents of Garden City to take advantage of the many wellness opportunities available during the week.

 

Six main areas of health will be focused on during the week at the schools in the district.  The areas include: nutritional health, physical health, mental health, health through safety, tobacco and drug prevention, and health through screening and prevention.

 

The Early Childhood through 6th grade schedule will include:

Monday-Movement Day – Athletic wear.

Tuesday-Safety Day – Wear Neon- Be bright – Be Seen.

Wednesday-Nutrition Wellness Day – Wear the color of your favorite fruit or sunflower.

Thursday- Mental Health Day – Think positive and wear your favorite color.

 

The 7th -12th grade schedule will include:

Monday - Nutrition/Hydration Day.

Tuesday - Drug Awareness Day - Wear Purple.

Wednesday – Mental Health Day – Wear comfy clothes.

Thursday - Exercise/Physical Fitness Day - Wear your favorite sports team gear.

 

There is no school on Friday due to a scheduled new teacher in-service during the day.  Classes will be back in session on Monday, February 2, 2026.
