Garden City High School has postponed the robotics competition for Saturday, January 24th, due to the bad weather that is expected that day. The competition has been rescheduled to February 14th at the high school.
Garden City High School and Buff Robotics will host the largest VexIQ robotics competition in Kansas history. This is the fifth consecutive year that the school has hosted the largest robotics competition in Kansas. This year, there will be 82 elementary and middle school teams from across the state that will participate in the event.
The competition serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills as they navigate the challenges of competitive robotics. The event also cultivates a strong sense of community, bringing together students, teachers, and parents from across the state to participate in STEM education.
The event will feature both a Teamwork Challenge, where two teams will collaborate to maximize their score, and a Robot Skills Challenge, testing individual robot performance against the clock. Students will also present STEM notebook projects, demonstrating their ability to apply the scientific method to investigate and solve real-world challenges.
The school will have a large contingent of high school students, district staff, and community members helping referee, judge, and facilitate this huge event.
VexIQ robotics provides a dynamic learning environment where students gain hands-on experience in coding, engineering, and design. Through these engaging challenges, students develop essential 21st-century skills that will serve them well in their future endeavors.
The Red Dog Children's Museum will also be present at the tournament. The museum is sponsored by the Scott County Community Foundation.
