FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Garden City Public Schools Responds to Federal Funding Freeze
Date: July 7, 2025
Garden City Public Schools wants to share important information with our community regarding recent changes in federal education funding that will impact our district.
Due to a federal funding freeze, the State of Kansas is projected to lose $49.9 million in education support. This will affect districts across the state, including ours. For USD 457, this means a loss of more than $1.3 million in federal funding across several key programs:
Migrant Education (Title IC): -$497,000
Teacher Quality & Professional Development (Title IIA): -$251,319
English Language Acquisition (Title III): -$223,004
Student Support & Academic Enrichment (Title IVA): -$95,202
After-School Programs (21st Century Title IVB): -$250,000
These funds support vital student services such as after-school programming, support for English learners, migrant students, and resources for teacher training and student well-being.
What This Means for Garden City Public Schools:
While the reduction in funding is significant, our top priority remains delivering an unparalleled educational experience for our students and community. We are committed to keeping all employees in place at their current pay rates, though some staff members whose roles are funded by federal dollars may have shifts in their job assignments.
Some programs may need to be scaled back or, in certain cases, discontinued due to the loss of funds. Every decision will be made with care and will be presented to the Board of Education for approval.
Our Commitment to You:
We understand how much our diverse community values these programs and the people that serve our students every day. We are working closely with our staff and Board to adjust and prioritize while continuing to deliver high-quality education to all students.
We’ll continue to update our families and community members as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we are grateful for your support and partnership.
If you have questions or concerns, we invite you to contact our district office at 620-805-7000.
Best wishes,
Josh Guymon
