The Skin of Our Teeth

The Garden City High School drama department will present “The Skin of Our Teeth” on November 15th and 16th at 7:00 p.m. There will be a matinee on November 17th at 2:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the auditorium on the Garden City High School campus, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Advance ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased at https://www.onthestage.tickets/garden-city-high-school2/individual-tickets, from cast members or at the door at the performances. However, tickets at the door are $7 for students and $10 for senior citizens, and $12 for adults. The box office opens an hour prior to the production for the purchase of tickets at the door. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted. Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to the show to ensure seating before the show begins.

This production will be adjudicated for the Kansas Thespian Festival that will be held in January. If selected, GCHS will travel to perform this show at Century II in Wichita, Kansas.

Synopsis: Meet George and Maggie Antrobus of Excelsior, New Jersey, a suburban, commuter-town couple (married for 5,000 years), who bear more than a casual resemblance to that first husband and wife, Adam and Eve; the two Antrobus children, Gladys (perfect in every way, of course) and Henry (who likes to throw rocks and was formerly know as Cain); and their garrulous maid, Sabina (the eternal seductress), who takes it upon herself to break out of character and interrupt the course of the drama at every opportunity ("I don't understand a word of this play!). Whether he is inventing the alphabet or merely saving the world from apocalypse, George and his redoubtable family somehow manage to survive - by the skin of their teeth.

Cast: Gabriel Buraca (senior) plays the Announcer/Broadcasting Official who sets up Acts 1 and 2. His assistant is played by Connor Music (freshman). Irelisse Porras (sophomore) plays the Antrobus’ made, Sabina. The Stage Manager is played by Zane Sorensen (sophomore). Mrs. Antrobus is played by Julia Facio (senior), and Mr. Antrobus is Oliver Spencer (junior). Their children Gladys and Henry are played by Ava Spencer (freshman) and Nic Vigil (senior). Their pets Fredrick, the dinosaur, played by Silas Lobmeyer (senior) and puppeted by Emmertte Smith (sophomore) and Trevor Rhoades (alumnus) and Dolly, the Mammoth, is played by Sophia Sobba (freshman). Lobmeyer also plays the Defeated Candidate and the head usher. The Telegraphy Boy is Zephyr Hernandez (sophomore) who also plays Homer and Mr. Antrobus’ dresser. Emelin Dominguez (sophomore) plays the doctor and the wardrobe mistress. Albert Revolorio (senior) plays the professor. Sebastian Arroyo (sophomore) plays the judge, Moses. The muses are played by Lila Scrivner (sophomore), Veronica Vargas (freshman), and Paige Sanders (freshman). Sanders also plays Sabina’s maid, and Scrivner is the woman in audience. The Fortune Teller is played by Benjamin Leens (junior). The Bingo Announcer is played by Sophie Cornish (freshman). Alina Sherrell (freshman) plays Ms. Dorthea Stetson. Ailyn Robledo plays the assistant stage manager as well as one of three cleaning ladies. The other cleaning ladies are Julibeth Arzate (junior), and Delilah Garcia (freshman). The drum majorettes are Veronica Vargas (freshman) and Isabella Cruz (freshman). The ushers are played by Julibeth Arzate and Veronica thang (freshman). The Chair Pushers are Joseph Perez (freshman) and Journie Wilson (freshman). The whole cast (besides the Antrobus family and Sabina) also play refugees, conveeners, and stage crew.

Alice Hilt is the Director. Assistant Directors are Mark Van Savage and Robyn Hilt. The set was designed by Alice Hilt and Izzy Frey. Costume designer is Robyn Hilt. Stage Manager is Izzy Frey (senior). Lights were designed by Alice Hilt and Anabel Reyes (sophomore). Sound was designed by Alice Hilt. Assistant Stage Manager is Corbin Huber (sophomore). Light Board Operator is Gerald Sisk (freshman). Sound Board Operator is Tyler Richters (sophomore). Artwork for poster and program was designed by Zephyr Hernandez (sophomore).
