Graduation Dates Moved Due to Snow Days

Dear Parents and Students:
How have the missed days of school due to the recent winter storms affected make-up days and graduation? The district will continue to follow the Board approved calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. This means the last day of school is still May 23, 2024.

We will need to move our graduation dates for the Class of 2024 due to the high number of snow days we have used this school year. The graduation ceremony for Garden City Achieve will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, and the graduation ceremony for Garden City High School will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024. The change to graduation has to be done to comply with state graduation requirements. The district must provide 1086 hours of instruction for our seniors to graduate.

Changing the date of graduation is not a decision that we take lightly. We understand all of the plans and preparations that families of graduates are looking at organizing for their child’s graduation day, so we wanted to get this information to you as soon as possible. As we get closer to the event date, the high school principals will provide more details on the graduation ceremony to students and parents.

We know the school closures have not been easy for any of us, but please understand that the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority and will always be the basis for any decision to amend the school day. Again, thank you for your understanding in working to meet the educational needs of our students as we address the unprecedented winter weather that we have experienced this school year.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your family, especially as we face this challenging situation together.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mike Dominguez, Ed.D.
