Garden City Mayor, Manny Ortiz, will read a proclamation at Victor Ornelas Elementary School at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024. The proclamation declares the week of January 22 through January 25, 2024, as Health Awareness Week in Garden City, Kansas. The proclamation will urge all residents of Garden City to take advantage of the many wellness opportunities available during the week.
Six main areas of health will be focused on during the week at the schools in the district. The areas include: nutritional health, physical health, mental health, health through safety, tobacco and drug prevention, and health through screening and prevention.
Early Childhood through 6th grade schedule will include:
Monday-Mental Health Day.
Tuesday-Tasty Tuesday-Wear color favorite fruit/vegetable.
Wednesday-Wellness Day-wear athletic wear.
Thursday-Think Safety/Prevention-Wear red or camo.
7th-12th grade schedule will include:
Monday-Nutrition/Hydration Day.
Tuesday-Mental Health Day.
Wednesday-Drug Awareness Day.
Thursday-Exercise/Physical Fitness Day.
There is no school on Friday due to a scheduled new teacher inservice during the day. Classes will be back in session on Monday, January 29, 2024.
