GCHS Drama Students Receive Scholarships at State Competition

Garden City High School Drama students Katrina Almaguer, Gavin Norton, Cesar Guevara, and Esme Corado competed at the William Inge Center for the Arts high school acting contest.  Esme, Katrina and Cesar all earned scholarships.  Gavin and Katrina also had the opportunity to perform at the Inge House.

The Inge Festival began four decades ago out of love and recognition of native son and playwright William Inge.  The William Inge Theatre Festival is a three-day event, which was named the Official State Theatre Festival of Kansas, as designated by the state legislature in 2010.  Festival attendees include artists, high school and college students from around the region, community members, those who work to support art, and those who are enthusiastic fans of the stories told on our nation’s stages.

The William Inge Center for the Arts was founded in 1982 on the campus of Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. It is named in the celebration and memory of Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning playwright, William Inge, who is a native of Independence and a graduate of Independence Community College.
