Request a fingerprint packet from the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) at the following link: http://www.ksde.org/default.aspx?tabid=386. Fingerprinting instructions included in the packet.

Complete and submit online Form 1 license application. Click link
below to start the application process. You will be instructed to
set-up a username and password on the KSDE Web Applications website to
access Form 1. Contact your university advisor for specific licensure

It takes KSDE approximately 6-8 weeks to process applications. You

Complete Form 2 application & print from following link:

. In one envelope mail to KSDE all of the following:
- Application Form 2 (pages 1-8)
- Official transcripts
- Copy of valid out-of-state license.
- Verification of approved teacher program (page 9)
- For teachers with teaching experience: Experience verification (page 11)
- Original testing score reports (if you have less than 3 years of recent experience)
- $70 application fee (personal check, money order, or cashier’s check payable to KSDE)

Types of Licenses
Initial License
Valid for two years from date of issuance.
Requirements: bachelor’s degree, completion of a teacher education
program, pedagogical and content assessments, eight semester hours of
recent credit.
One-Year Nonrenewable License
Valid only through June 30th of the school year for which the license
is issued. A nonrenewable license is issued to applicants who meet all
other requirements for an initial license except the assessments.
Exchange License
Valid for two years from date of issuance.
Requirements: bachelor’s degree, completion of a teacher education
program (from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio,
Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin), pedagogical and content assessments,
eight semester hours of recent credit.
Restricted License
Valid for the school year in which the license is issued. Any
restricted teaching license may be reissued for two additional
consecutive school years if progress reports are submitted.
Requirements: bachelor’s degree in content area or with equivalent
coursework in the area for which the restricted license is sought with
minimum 2.75 grade point average, passing score on content assessment,
hired by accredited school with plan of study on file, and assigned a
mentor.
Transitional License
Valid for the school year in which the license is issued and nonrenewable.
Requirements: previously held an initial or professional license that
has been expired six months or longer, verification of accredited
experience during transitional license is required to reinstate the
expired initial license.
Professional License
Valid for five years from date of issuance.
Requirements: completion of teaching performance assessment while
employed in an accredited school and one year of recent experience or
eight semester hours of recent credit.
Emergency Substitute License
First substitute license is valid only through June 30th of the school year for which the license is
issued. Renewed substitute licenses are valid for two years with end date of June 30th of second year.
Requirements: 60 semester hours of general education coursework,
professional education coursework, or a combination of these types of
coursework.
