1:1 iPad Program
4/18/12
Garden City High School will be
implementing a 1:1 iPad program
beginning with the 2012-2013 school
year. The primary importance of
this program is the educational
value it brings to students. This
device will allow students access to
information and tools on a 24/7
basis, develop 21st century skills,
improve communication between school
and home, bridge the digital divide,
and increase opportunities for
deeper understanding and
engagement.
Each iPad will have a filtering
application that will provide safe
Internet access on any wifi
network. A management system will
be in place to monitor, manage, and
track the devices both at school and
away. A core set of applications
(apps) will be installed on each
iPad; teachers and students will be
allowed to install individual apps
that best enhance their learning and
teaching.
Teachers will begin professional
development in May, and continue
throughout the summer, to develop
lessons that effectively integrate
the device into teaching and
learning. Teachers will also learn
how to use cloud storage, assign
activities, use Web 2.0 tools, and
manage their devices.
Professional development will
continue through the year and be
tailored to the specific needs of
GCHS. Additionally, the district is
preparing a schedule for
informational meetings with parents
and students to detail the
requirements and expectations for
all involved.
