Fashion and Textiles
Patsy Fort

Classes in this subject teach students to design, create, develop and make patterns at 1/4 scale, 1/2 scale and full size models.  It encourages students to use computer aided design which has become increasingly popular to the fashion design industry.  The class also teaches students the latest fashion trends, and how fashion shows are developed.  

Course Descriptions

Introduction to Fashion, Textiles and Interiors

Grade- 9,10         Credits- ½ credit

Students will learn about career opportunities in the fashion and Interiors industry. The elements and principles of design will be introduced as they relate to fashion and interiors. Basic sewing techniques will be learned as needed for current fashion production. Students will complete one service project  and a recycle project: $10 for personal projects.

   
     
 

Fashion Studio I

    

Grade- 9, 10, 11, 12   Credits- ½ credit

Prerequisite:– Introduction to Fashion, Textiles and Interiors or Instructor Permission

This class is springboard for the student who wants to learn more about the fashion world.  Students use basic principles of design and introductory garment construction techniques for the fashion industry.  Career opportunities are investigated that may lead to successful employment in the areas of clothing, textiles, and fashion.

 

     

Fashion Studio II

     
 Grade 9, 10, 11, 12    ½ credit

Prerequisite: Fashion Studio I

Students will learn about characteristics of textiles for used in the fashion industry.  Students also develop advanced sewing production skills needed for apparel design.  Student selected clothing projects with design variations will be completed.  Students also learn about merchandising and marketing methods, product development and promotion for fashion

Runway Design

Grade 10, 11, 12  ½ credit

Prerequisite: Fashion Studio I

This course focuses on student-generated designs for fashion. Students will learn the basics of pattern making using flat pattern method. Computer programs as well as student drawings will be used to create designs. Students will learn about trends, fads, and classics in fashion. Students will construct an original design.

Work Based Learning

 Grade:  11, 12

(7505/7506-1 hour) 11,12 1/2 Credit or 1 Credit (7507/7508-2 hours) 12 2 Credits

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Fashion Studio I and II. Students must also complete an application into the program during enrollment. Students will be released during class time to work in the fashion industry.  Students must have their own transportation and be able to secure a job in a fashion related business.
