Change
of Placement
All placement changes will be handled as specified
in the USD 457 ESOL Handbook. A team
of educators will be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of the
proposed placement change.
Program
Exit Criteria
A student may be exited from the ESL program for any of the
following reasons:
OR
* He/she has completed the required benchmarks for ESL course work. (Teachers may evaluate the students' progress on the benchmarks and determine if mitigating circumstances apply.)
*He/she tested competent in two areas on the English Language Proficiency Test
*He/she shows lack of participation, but ability is shown by work and test scores.
Tracking
of Exited and Other
Pursuant to OCR recommendation, the ESL Department tracks all ESL students until graduation, providing support for them as needed. The ESL Department will also track current ESL students in their elective and regular education classes. This involves ongoing collaborative efforts from teachers, parents, counselors and the students themselves to ensure that when exited from the program, students have a strong support system and do not feel abandoned.
