Fredrick Finnup Family
Fredrick Finnup arrived in Garden City on April 18, 1879. He moved from Indiana. He came to Garden City in search for business. Finnup built buildings because he had faith in the people and future of Garden City. He ran a general store on Main Street. The general store was the biggest building. He sold furniture, stoves, tinware, clothing, shoes, hats, hardware, and other necessities on the ground floor. After Finnup died his son, George donated 100 or more acres of land. The land was donated to create the Fredrick Finnup Park. The park is the home to - Lee Richardson Zoo, Finnup Center for Conservation Education, the Finney County Historical Museum, and the Garden City Pool.
