
SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
Students who have an active Individual Education Plan (IEP) will receive the necessary services through our special education program.

ESL ENGLISH LEVEL 1 (7,8)
This course is designed for students who have no English proficiency (NEP) or low English proficiency (LEP). The student is required to take a placement test before being placed in this class. The purpose of the course is to help the student acquire the English language skills in listening and speaking required for them to function in school and society as well. The student first learns to understand the instruction through physical activities in class. The course provides students with vocabulary and language instruction about school routines such as classroom requirements, etc. The class normally requires one year of attendance.

ESL READING LEVEL 1 (7,8)
Students will do individual reading and they will work on the Dolch sight words. Also, students will distinguish between vowels and consonants. Listening skills will be worked on with each student. Reading puts an emphasis on learning English through reading skills and practice reading at the students reading level.

ESL MATHEMATICS LEVEL 1 (7,8)
These courses are designed for NEP and LEP students. The student learns the same math concepts and skills as are taught in mainstream classrooms while acquiring the basic math terms and language skills in English which are required for successful learning in regular classrooms. Extra language as well as instructional help is provided for students whose educational experience is not sufficient to excel in the regular education classroom.

ESL SCIENCE LEVEL 1 (7,8)
In this class we follow mainstream curriculum. The emphasis, however, is in applying science to each level so they not only learn about the subject, but also words, ideas and concepts.

ESL SOCIAL STUDIES LEVEL 1 (7,8)
In this class we follow mainstream curriculum. The emphasis, however, is in applying social studies to each level so they not only learn about the subject, but also words, ideas and concepts.

ESL TUTORIAL LEVEL 1 (7,8)
This class is required for ESL students. It is designed to assist those students with all core areas. This class will allow ESL students to practice and review skills learned in the core area.

ESL LEVEL 2 (7,8)
The ESL level 11 student will receive services through the " Class Within A Class "model for all academic areas.
